Safari to cool places

We just got back this evening from a trip to Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Oldupai Gorge (yes, this is the correct spelling - the first Europeans got the name wrong), and to see a Masai family. It was really a lot of fun and some interesting sights. I'll write more about it in the next day or two, but in the meantime I have posted some pictures here:

FYI, a few of the names listed in the pictures are Swahili. See if you can find them!

Sarah - Thanks so much for fixing the blog so that it is easier to leave a comment. I just looked our pictures from the weekend - what a great trip. And how fun that you ran into friends from the States - they are missionaries, right? We have some young African boys staying with us right now. They are part of the African Children's choir - they did a concert in downtown Gaylord last night. Two of the boys are from Kenya and one is from Uganda. We also have two chaperones staying with us. One is a former choir kid and is from Uganda. The other chaperone is from Indiana! We made a pot of Kenyan tea this morning - the boys taught me how. :) We made it black but maybe for dinner or tomorrow's breakfast we'll do it with milk. They are great kids and we've already enjoyed the short time we've spent with them. They are very respectful and polite but they are also kids. After dinner we hope to take them to see the elk and get ice cream cones. We are going to get out our map of Kenya and Uganda and find out where they are from. It would be fun to show them the pictures you posted. The kids are at "school" today out at the church. We pick them up again at 5PM for dinner but they must be in bed by 8PM sharp so it will be a short evening. We love you and think of you every day and pray that all is going well for you and that you are keeping busy enough to not be lonely. :) Love and blessings, Cheryl

Hi Sarah,
I’m going to attempt to stay with your blog as you mention going to Malawi. I’m an 83-year old, retired professor and I blog as The Old Professor at http://oldprof.blogspot.com/
I’m very interested because I was in Blantyre, Malawi from 1966 to 1968 as part of a U.S. State Department program to bring the modern world to Malawi. Our team had much to do with setting up the Malawi Polytechnic. From what I read these days our efforts didn’t accomplish much but I’d be interested in your view on Malawi today.
I wonder if you would mind sharing your e-mail address with me so I don’t lose you. I will be sure no one else gets it and rest assured I will not bug you – unless you ask me to.:-)
My best wishes to you and Dave,
The Old Professor
